Overview

This website has been built in order to provide information to people who are not closely familiar with textile terms. The aim of this work is to help you to a better understanding what textiles are and how textile can help you.

 

The pedagogic module is divided into 4 main parts :

 

    Terminology:

    The aim of this part is to give you a lexique of some of the terms used in the textile industry.


    Fibres:

    The role of textile fibres is so central to our lives. In fact, there are textile fibres into clothing, bedding, furnishing but also in a lot of technical products such as automotive (more than 35 textile products are present in a car), aeronautic, composite, packaging, protection, environment... So, this topic provides information about the different fibers used in the textile industry. It exists two big categories: natural fibres and synthetic fibres


    Properties:

    What are the general characteristics of fibres? There is no such thing as a perfect fibres. So many requirements are demanded to fibres in the many different uses of textile products, ranging fromclothing to automotive, from aeronautic to furnishing.
    More than 30 properties (mechanical, thermal, physical, chemical & description) are explained in this part.


    Textile processes:

    A few words about the different processes to transform fibres to end products are presented in this part.
